Carl Fletcher, a shot-putter from Britain, can’t take part in competitions four years. The suspension was pronounced by the United Kingdom Anti-Doping Agency (UKAD) because he was accused in trafficking anabolic steroids. Carl Fletcher distributed more than 15 types of steroids. It was found out that HGH, testosterone and Trenbolone were among the drugs which had been sold by this famous sportsman. The Liverpool Crown Court sentenced this sportsperson to 9 months in prison.
It is interesting to note that the shot-putter from Britain never tested positive for any steroids or other performance-enhancing drugs by the WADA. Don’t you find this fact strange? What could it mean? It is possible to suppose that methods applied by anti-doping agencies are not good enough to catch steroid users who take part in world sport competitions.
The WADA and the UKAD try to make sports free of cheating and administration of steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs. These agencies also work together with law enforcement organizations in order to get the necessary effects.
The UKAD noted that anti-doping officials would be allowed to supply information about names of athletes that administrated anabolic steroids.
This case displayed that the collaboration between the UKAD and law enforcement benefits a lot. It proved that law enforcement agencies may help greatly to detect the sportspersons who apply anabolic steroids or other performance-enhancing drugs. It is not possible to overvalue the role of these agencies in catching of steroid users in sports. Andy Parkinson, the manager of the UKAD, is sure that if law enforcement organizations collaborate with the UKAD, they will have success.
The Merseyside Police and the Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) investigated a certain case linked with administration of steroids by officers at the St. Helens Basic Command Unit. It was found out that Fletcher had taken part in the illegal activity led by his uncle and cousin. This resulted in Fletcher’s suspension from competitions till November 8, 2015.
