Jose Canseco, a former player of the Major League Baseball, didn’t agree to submit to a test for steroid, when he tried to come back to the Mexican Baseball League. It was earlier confirmed that the “Tigres de Quintana” of Cancun provided him the second chance and invited him to play.
This baseball player didn’t agree to submit to tests for steroids that had to be conducted by officers of the Mexico’s National Commission for Physical Culture and Sport (CONADE). CONADE represents government agency that manages Olympic sports in Mexico.
Cuauhtemoc Rodriguez Meza, the chief executive officer of this baseball team, confirmed that Jose Canseco would not be allowed to play for the team because he had acknowledged that he used prohibited preparations.
Jose Canseco admitted that he was on testosterone replacement therapy under supervision of a physician in the US. He mentioned that he was receiving TRT since 2008. This player was not surprised by the requirement to submit to steroid testing. He wrote on his Twitter account last month that the Minor League Baseball would conduct testing for forbidden drugs.
As it is known, an athlete is allowed to take steroids for TRT and take part in competitions, if he/she has acquired a therapeutic use exemption (TUE). A TUE permits application of forbidden medicines, if it is justified by medical needs.
It is known that Jose Canseco has prescription from his physician that supports his need to receive TRT. But he doesn’t have any TUE for intake of testosterone.
Jose Canseco has publicly admitted that he had a prescription from his health care provider to apply testosterone as a part of testosterone replacement therapy. He wrote about this factor in a documentary in 2008. He claimed that he discontinued using illegal steroids and had low testosterone production that was provoked by steroids. Then his doctor prescribed him administering a testosterone gel in order to escape from side effects of steroids.
It is clear that Jose Canseco’s application of steroids is justified because he has medical need for usage. But since he doesn’t have any TUE, it is unclear whether he would join the team that has steroid testing.
The CEO of “Tigres de Quintana” noticed that he had known that Jose Canseco was on TRT but he invited him to play, just with a TUE.
