Alberto Contador blames contaminated meat for his positive for Clenbuterol

The Spanish cyclist Alberto Contador that won the 2010 Tour de France tested positive for Clenbuterol. Amounts of this substance in his body were extremely small. They were 40 times less than its minimum standard of the detection capacity. But the WADA doesn’t have any tolerance when it comes to this medicine. Any amount of this substance detected in an athlete’s body results in ban.
Alberto Contador claims that the positive for Clenbuterol is caused by meat contaminated with this substance. Some specialists are inclined to believe him, since the amount detected in his urine are very small. Nonetheless, the Spanish cyclist Alberto Contadorwas banned.
Douwe de Boer, anti-doping expert of Contador’s defense team, points out that he becomes disappointed in decisions of the WADA day by day. This specialist mentions that it seems as if the WADA were glad to ban innocent sportspersons but not to catch cheaters.
Zhao Jian of China’s Anti-Doping Agency says that an individual may test positive from contaminated meat. It isn’t just anyone’s point of view. This statement is scientifically proven. The expert Detlef Thieme from Germany supports this statement as well. He says that nobody can doubt about it.
Wilhelm Schaenzer of the Laboratoty for Doping Analysis at the German Sports University in Cologne notices that it is an obvious problem that they do not have capacity to investigate and detect doping clearly.
According to anti-doping studies led in Cologne, it is easier to detect Clenbuterol from contaminated meat than from intentional intake of this medication for athletic needs.
China’s National Anti-Doping Laboratory informs that experiments conducted by them have shown that consumption of pork meat that contains Clenbuterol can lead to positives for this substance.
In spite of these affirmations, there are skeptic people who think that the cyclist Alberto contador has administrated forbidden drugs.
Skeptic attitude to the cyclist Alberto Contador can be explained by the condition that use of EPO, anabolic steroids, HGH and other medications which have performance-enhancing effects is widespread in cycling. The former cyclists Floyd Landis and Bernhard Kohl that have been caught by the WADA assure that all cyclists forbidden medicines that have performance-enhancing effects. Patrick Arnold, a chemist has the same opinion.
